Zachary Abrams Managing Partner
Zachary Abrams has over 15 years of experience in corporate strategy, mergers & acquisitions and financial management.Prior to founding Stratim Capital, Mr. Abrams was one of two founding partners of Lake Street Capital, a private equity firm focused on acquiring direct equity interests in the secondary market.He led the firm’s due diligence and execution efforts and completed over 12 transactions with total invested capital in excess of $350 million.
Prior to Stratim Capital, Mr. Abrams was Vice President of Corporate and Business Development at SonicWALL, Inc., a publicly traded provider of network security solutions.In this capacity, he led the company’s OEM and licensing division as well as managed the business development and M&A groups and served on the Operating Committee.
Mr. Abrams previously worked at Bear, Stearns & Co., a leading full service investment bank, where he was a Vice President of Investment Banking focused on clients in the technology industry.His responsibilities included developing corporate relationships and executing M&A and financing transactions.He also served as a professional in the Technology Investment Banking Group at Merrill Lynch.During his investment banking career, Mr. Abrams executed over 45 M&A and financing transactions with aggregate value in excess of $20 billion.
Prior to his investment banking experiences, Mr. Abrams spent over 5 years with General Electric, where he completed the Financial Management Program and served on the Corporate Audit Staff at GE and GE Capital.While at GE Capital, Mr Abrams led financial reviews and portfolio valuation analyses at business units with assets in excess of $30 billion and completed due diligence on over $2 billion of acquisitions. Mr. Abrams holds an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from ColbyCollege.
Mr. Such has over 15 years of experience in venture investing and technology-focused corporate finance. He is responsible for sourcing opportunities, performing investment analysis and due diligence, and post-investment portfolio management. Mr. Such has been making secondary direct investments since 2004 when he joined Lake Street Capital, an originator of the asset class. At Lake Street, Mr. Such helped managed a portfolio consisting of over 100 venture investments, most of which have moved through the liquidation process generating attractive overall fund returns. Mr. Such served as a board of directors observer for several of the portfolio companies.
Prior to joining Lake Street, Mr. Such spent five years in Sun Microsystems, Inc.'s Corporate Development Group where he helped manage the corporation’s $600 million venture fund. During his tenure, Mr. Such worked on the financing, management, and exit of over 80 investments, generating proceeds exceeding $300 million. He also performed corporate strategy and M&A analysis while at Sun.
Prior to Sun, Mr. Such spent four years in investment banking and corporate finance advisory positions focused on emerging companies in the high technology industry.
Mr. Such earned an M.B.A. from Carnegie Mellon University with University Honors and a B.S. cum laude with an emphasis in Finance from the University of Arizona. He also has earned various certificates of proficiency in the field of Computer Science.
Tom Thompson Partner
Mr. Thompson is a partner with Stratim Capital. Mr. Thompson has over thirty years experience in financial management, ranging from Treasury assignments with a large multinational oil company to serving as CFO of technology start-ups. He has managed all aspects of the financial, controllership, and administrative functions, including raising over $1 billion in the public markets and has extensive M&A and business development experience. He also served for 10 years as senior division executive of a financial services profit center with operations in 12 countries.
In addition to his role as Chief Operating Officer at Stratim, he provides financial and operational consulting to venture portfolio companies, and may also serve as an interim CFO. Clients have included companies in marketing services, technology and software services, magazine publishing, and enterprise software. He has advised on financial strategy and assisted with fundraising, developed and critiqued financial and business models, evaluated financial operations and sourced staffing. He has overseen all financial and administrative functions for start-ups, developing and implementing migration paths for evolving those functions as company needs change. The diversity and depth of Mr. Thompson’s financial background, coupled with his extensive operating experience, give Stratim a unique competitive advantage in its ability to assist its portfolio companies with their strategic objectives.
Mr. Thompson began his career at Exxon. He moved to Manufacturers Hanover Leasing Corp as VP Finance and then became President of Manufacturers Hanover Leasing International. He then moved to Ziff-Davis Publishing, where he concentrated on acquisitions and business development. Most recently, he was CFO of three early stage companies, including DigitalIsland, which was NASDAQ listed and subsequently acquired by Cable & Wireless. Mr. Thompson holds an M.B.A. in finance and a B.S.B.A. in economics, both from NorthwesternUniversity.
Nicholas Van Loan Principal
Mr. Van Loan is currently a Principal at Stratim Partners.Prior to Stratim, Mr. Van Loan was a Vice President at Lake Street Capital where he evaluated new business opportunities and monitored investments across six separate business segments.He also performed due diligence on potentialfinancing and acquisition transactions, assisted portfolio company management in identifying business development opportunities and facilitated introductions for strategic partnering and financing transactions.
Prior to Lake Street, Mr. Van Loan worked as a Manager of Corporate and Business Development at SonicWALL, Inc., a provider of internet security solutions.During his tenure at SonicWALL, the firm completed six domestic and international acquisitions valued over $300 million and increased annual revenue from under $20 million to over $100 million.
Mr. Van Loan previously was a Financial Analyst at Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc.Mr. Van Loan completed equity, debt and M&A transactions in the Emerging Markets Group in New York and the Technology Group in San Francisco.His experiences include working with international corporations, sovereign and quasi-sovereign entities in addition to US-based software, hardware and internet companies.
Mr. Van Loan received his M.B.A. with University Honors from The McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin and a B.S. cum laude in Finance and International Business from GeorgetownUniversity.
